Digi Belize City Defenders continue undefeated run, drop Western Ballaz 84-69

By Ruben Morales Iglesias: The Digi Belize City Defenders beat the Cayo Western Ballaz 84-69 at the Belize City Civic Center on Friday night continuing their good start to the 2023 Belize Elite Basketball League (BEBL) season as they raked in their third consecutive victory.

Nigel Jones had a superb performance leading the way with 28 points, 19 rebounds, assists, and three blocks. Devin Daly sank 16 points while grabbing six rebounds, making two assists, and getting three steals. Treandus Branch contributed 11 points, 10 rebounds, three assists, three steals,  and one block.

For the Western Ballaz, Richard Smith III connected 21 points, pulling 12 boards, making an assist, and recording two steals and two blocks. Mark Gordon nailed in 18 points, grabbed 9 boards, and made three assists and a steal. Jamie Carbajal also scored 18 points to go with one assist and three steals.

The Defenders are now 3-0 while the Western Ballaz drops to 2-1.

In the other Friday game, the Belmopan Red Taigaz defeated the Griga Dream Ballers 91-79.

The BEBL championship continues tonight with the Running Rebels hosting the Benny’s Belize Hurricanes at the Orange Walk Multi-Purpose Complex at 9:00 pm while the Punta Gorda Panthers match up against the San Pedro Tiger Sharks at 9:30 pm at the PG Sporting Complex.
