Elderly man lets guest into his home for a drink of water, gets beaten and robbed

By Breaking Belize News Staff: Sixty-two-year-old Aubrey Garbutt let someone he knew into his home for a drink of water and to use the bathroom, and ended up getting robbed.

Garbut told police that he was alone at the time when 40-year-old Leo Grant, who he knew for around five years, came calling. He allowed Grant into his home and moments after Grant left the bathroom he attacked, then made off with $650. The incident happened in July of 2022, but on Friday, February 10, 2023, Grant appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court answering to a single charge of robbery.

Grant pleaded not guilty to the charge, but bail was denied in the first instance and he was remanded to the Belize Central Prison until April 14.
