By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 68-year-old man who tried to destroy a wasp nest by fire is out on bail after being charged for burning down his neighbour’s house.
Retired Belizean/American Bernard Moore appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court today, charged with a single count of arson.
Allegations against him are that on February 10 he destroyed the home and possessions of Marlon Longsworth, which had a combined value of $75,000.
No plea was taken as the matter will be heard on indictment at the High Court of Belize, and since there was no objection to bail it was granted to him in the sum of $5,000 plus one surety of the same.
In court, Moore said he was shocked about being charged as he had spoken to Longsworth and agreed to assist in rebuilding his home. He noted that the fire was not maliciously set and that he was just trying to get rid of the wasps.
His next court appearance has been scheduled for April 4.
