By Breaking Belize News Staff: The trial of interdicted police officer Virgil Perez continued in the High Court of Belize this week before Justice Ricardo O’Neil Sandcroft.

Perez stands charged with theft with respect to a $55,000 Toyota Hilux, that was stolen from the Belize Diesel Equipment Ltd. compound in Belize City on February 26, 2012.

The trial kicked off on February 8, in front of a nine-member jury (five men and four women). The crown has called all its witnesses and officially closed its case.

Reports are that Perez’s attorney, Norman Rodriguez is preparing to file no-case submission today.

This is the first trial by jury since the January session of the High Court kicked off on January 17, 2023 but also the second trial by jury since the mandatory mask regulations were imposed during the COVID-19 pandemic was lifted.
