Man fined over $1,000 for stealing building materials from his ex-lover

By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Belize City man was fined in court this week for stealing over $2,700 worth of building materials from his ex-common law wife.

Twenty-three-year-old Peter Craig, appeared in court charged with a single count of theft in relation to 12 sheets of plywood, 15 sheets of zinc and 14 pieces of 2×4 lumber, stolen from the complainant.

He pleaded guilty to the charge and the Magistrate, considering his age and early guilty plea, fined him $1,500 plus $5 cost of court. Craig must pay his fine by June 30, or he will spend six months in prison for default.

The complainant said that she ended the relationship in January and had left the items at his residence, but passed the house one day to find him loading the items into a trailer without her permission, so she filed charges.
