Today’s feature is on former Queen of the Bay Deserine Usher Kuylen.

Deserine was born in the southern town known for its Gumagarugu Waata.

Her parents owned and operated Spaceline – an upholstery and cabinet business.

As Deserine and her siblings were required to assist in the family’s business from an early age, the principles of hard work was ingrained and served fundamental in the rearing of her own children – who too, all worked alongside her and her husband in their family business – A&D’s.

A proud mother of 3, Deserine’s maternal heart extends to many in her community like a hen covering her brood.

She is often seen encouraging her young staff to aspire for greatness. Her personal dream for all of them is to own their home-of which she ensures they receive the necessary assistance however possible.

Outside of work, she also actively engages with the youths by visiting schools to speak about entrepreneurship, life skills and the importance of saving and setting goals.

Representing her beloved Stann Creek District, she captured the national crown as Queen of the Bay in 1993, and has continued throughout the years to guide and build young women’s self-confidence through homegrown pageants: Miss Teen Stann Creek and Miss Teen Orchid.

Currently, Deserine’s focus has been on the Authentic You Experience (AUE).

Alongside one of her daughters, they created a non-profit organization geared at uplifting women to make themselves a priority and focus on their personal growth and appreciation of oneself.

This has swiftly grown to become a movement of over 250 women across the nation of Belize and beyond.

Deserine’s love for people and being a listening ear has led her to become a Certified Life Coach. She is an abundant giver and freely offers and shares her expertise with anyone who might need her one-on-one private coaching sessions to move past roadblocks; which came naturally, as she had long created a safe zone of relief and confidentiality in her business.

In May 2023, Deserine will be celebrating 25 years as an entrepreneur of which she is grateful to all those who supported her all these years.

Regardless of her accomplishments, she feels most successful when she can help someone feel special, seen, heard, valued and appreciated.

Deserine remains earthed to her roots and credits her parents for their strong upbringing and values that they poured into her.

Her mantra is “Live life fully, keep God at the center and leave this world better than how you found it when you got here.”
