Commemorative Monument celebrating Belize and Taiwan’s friendship unveiled at Corozal Free Zone

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On February 15, 2023, Neri Ramirez, Chief Executive Officer of the Corozal Free Zone and Emil Grinage, Chairman of the Corozal Free Zone unveiled a commemorative monument at the Corozal Free Zone.

The monument symbolizes the special friendship between Belize and Taiwan.

Taiwan’s Ambassador David Kuan-Chou Chien attended the event.

Attendees also included Jose Abelardo Mai, Minister of Agriculture, Food Security and Enterprise, Kevin Bernard, Minister of Health and Wellness, Florencio Marin Jr., Minister of National Defence and Border Security, Ramon Cervantes, Minister of State in the Ministry of Sustainable Development, Climate Change and Disaster Risk Management, Ramiro Ramirez, Minister of State in the Ministry of Rural Transformation, Community Development, Labour and Local Government, Thea Garcia-Ramirez, President of the National Women’s Commission, Philip Ying, Senior Adviser of Overseas Community Affairs Council of the Republic of China (Taiwan), Mayor Rigoberto Vellos and other officials.

“As a true friend and partner of Corozal Free Zone, the Embassy is honored to see the construction of the Commemorative Monument, highlighting the 34-year-old diplomatic partnership between Belize and Taiwan, and that the fire truck donated by Taiwan last year has been in good use to safeguard the lives and properties of local Belizean community,” the Taiwan Embassy noted.

Ambassador Chien also took the opportunity to bid farewell to all friends in Belize as he almost completes his tour of duty in Belize.

“As a trustworthy ally of Belize, the Embassy of Taiwan will continuously work with the Government of Belize to advance the benefits of Belizean people and to strengthen the partnership between our two countries,” the embassy added.
