By Benjamin Flowers: Minister of Tourism and Diaspora Relations Anthony Mahler is preparing to lead a delegation to the United States, to meet with Belizeans living in Atlanta, Georgia.
The delegation is scheduled to leave on February 23, with a visit to Conyers, planned for the 24. There, the delegation is set to be recognized by Rockdale County’s tax commissioner and participate in a ceremony celebrating two area businesses owned by members of the Belize diaspora: Victory Insurance Group, run by Stacy Emeri Watson, and C-Town Bikes and Fitness, run by Al Smith.
The delegation will also participate in a town hall meeting with the Belizean community at The Whitley hotel in Buckhead scheduled for February 25.
Mahler has also requested a meeting with Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens.
The trip will be used to promote enhanced tourism and business ties. Accompanying the Minister on the trip will be Minister of Public Service, Constitutional and Political Reform, and Religious Affairs Henry Usher; Minister of Health and Wellness Kevin Bernard; Minister of Rural Transformation, Community Development, Labour and Local Government Oscar Requeña; Chief Executive Officer, Ministry of Tourism & Diaspora Relations Nicole Solano; Ambassador for Diaspora Relations Sandhya Murphy; and Liaison Officer, Ministry of Tourism & Diaspora Relations Vivienne Acosta.
Notably, Belize previously had an honorary consul in Atlanta, but the post is currently empty.
