Guatemalan judo instructor to conduct three-day training in Belize

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Guatemalan Judo instructor Oscar Morales arrived in Belize on Friday morning via the Western border to conduct a two-day training of Belizean judokas.

Sensei Morales, a 4^th degree dan instructor, has conducted training of Belizean athletes in previous visits to Belize.

One Belizean athlete in particular, Ishmael Castro, is trying to improve his international ranking in order to qualify for the Olympics.

President of the Judo Belize Federation Remus Betancourt said Olympics qualifying is done by competing in international competitions recognized by the International Judo Federation such as the Pan American and Central American Championships. Athletes get competition points which rank them internationally.

Morales is accompanied by another coach and three Guatemalan athletes who will serve as sparring partners for the Belizean athletes in the training sessions.

Morales leaves Belize on Sunday.
