By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On February 16, 2023, Taiwan Ambassador David Kuan-Chou Chien attended the inaugural ceremony of the Taiwan-Belize Mandarin Program in San Ignacio and Santa Elena.
The program was launched in collaboration with the Minister of Public Utilities, Energy, Logistics and E-governance, Michel Chebat, President of Cayo North United Women’s Group, Claribel Cocom and Chief of Taiwan Technical Mission in Belize, Robert Pan.
The program is open to the public and available to the local residents who are interested in learning Mandarin.
Fifty students are registered in the course which will be facilitated for 6 months.
Students will attend every Thursday from 3 to 5 pm.
During his remarks, Ambassador Chien expressed his gratitude to the Government of Belize for supporting Taiwan-Belize Mandarin Program, aiming to provide Belizeans with opportunities of learning Mandarin and Taiwanese culture.
Ambassador Chien also encouraged students to apply for the Taiwan/ICDF Scholarships and enjoy the opportunity to study and learn more about Taiwan.
