By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The End of the World Marathon and 1/2 Marathon recently donated $31,000 to Placencia Rotary Club.
The Placencia Rotary Club announced the gift from the 11th Annual End of the World Marathon and 1/2 Marathon to the Club’s Scholarship Fund through a social media post by Linda Cazin Burrow.
The post shows local marathon organizer Dan Edwards (right) handing over the cheque to Placencia Rotary Club President Harold Wallen (left). The post said the End of the World Marathon founder and continued co-organizer Chip Lovett wasn’t present during the handing over.
The Annual End of the World Marathon and 1/2 Marathon is the biggest running event in Belize. Over 270 runners competed in the 11th edition last December. The 12th edition comes up on December 10, 2023.
According to the Placencia Rotary Club the Scholarship Fund grants high school, sixth form (junior college) and university scholarships.
