U.S. Ambassador and IOM discuss amnesty program

Posted: Friday, February 17, 2023. 1:55 pm CST.

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Today, U.S. Ambassador Michelle Kwan met with International Organization for Migration (IOM) Head of Office in Belize Diana Locke.

Discussions focused on the amnesty program.

The Amnesty program seeks to address the issue of irregular migrants in Belize and focuses on managing migration, national security, economic development, and humanitarian assistance.

IOM, with funding from the United States, has been a staunch supporter of the amnesty since its launch in 2022.

“Together with IOM, #WeStandWithBelize to protect the rights, dignity, and well-being of migrants,” the U.S. Embassy said.
