Altitude dump Internacional FC, previously Bandits, 3-0 in Premier League of Belize

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Premier League of Belize Champions Altitude trounced Internacional Fútbol Club (Bandits) 3-0 on Saturday night at the Michael Ashcroft Stadium in Independence moving up from the sixth to the fourth spot in the Closing Championship.

Ashton Torres gave the champs the lead in the fourth minute. Then, Colombian Andrés Orozco, the Opening Championhsip’s top scorer, roared back to life with two goals in a minute scoring in the 33^rd and 34^th to seal the match at 3-0 over Internacional.

For the champs, the Closing Championship hasn’t been what they expected, particularly after they won the last championship. Last week they fell to the sixth spot, only better than Internacional and Wagiya. It’s not much comfort for Altitude that archrivals Verdes are also struggling and now find themselves in sixth place. At nine points, Altitude now stand in fourth.

As planned, they will close off the first round against Verdes on Sunday in Cayo.

For the Bandits, the name change is not going to be enough to change them into a winning team overnight. Two Mexican players, forward Manuel Ortega Delgado and defender Pablo Daniel Vela Becerra, will be reporting to the club this week and we’ll see how much of an impact they can make along with the new Mexican coach Juan Manuel Macías Lozano the new administrators are bringing in.  

For now, they languish in the seventh spot with just two points from six games.

On Saturday, Internacional will have a good break at their first win when they face Wagiya at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium in Belmopan. But it’s safe to say that the match is also Wagiya’s best shot at gaining their first point(s) as well.
