Fire forces evacuation, suspension of classes at St Joseph R.C. Primary in Belize City

By Aaron Humes: According to the Ministry of Education, classes at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Primary School have been suspended and students evacuated due to smoke coming from the scene of an apartment fire at the corner with Simon Lamb Street that is still being fought at this time.

According to reports from the area, the wooden two-story structure is “gutted” and another residence nearby damaged, while several small explosions were heard, ascribed to cars in the yard going up in flames as well.

The smoke could be seen from as far south as Racoon Street just after 11 this morning.

Fire Service personnel remain on the scene as well as Police and utility companies to secure the area.

Investigations into the cause of the fire will begin as soon as it has been put out.
