By Benjamin Flowers: Two people are dead after being knocked off their motorcycle by an ambulance in the Cayo district last night.

Police say that 42-year-old Aurelia Ayala and 21-year-old Joana Samosa were on a motorcycle at the Beaver Dam Bridge located in St. Matthew’s Village, between miles 38 and 39 on the George Price Highway when they were rear-ended by an ambulance.

Ayala sustained severe head and body injuries as a result of the ensuing crash and died on the road. Samosa was flung into the ravine below the bridge and died as a result.

Both of their bodies were taken to the Western Regional Hospital where they await a post-mortem.

Meanwhile, Police have served the ambulance driver, 33-year-old Josh Barrias, with a notice of intended prosecution.

Police collected a urine sample from Barrias to check his alcohol levels as part of an ongoing investigation.
