By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Today, U.S. President Joe Biden said that Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky, and his people have remained resilient one year after Russia invaded Ukraine, CNN reports.
During his remarks in Poland, Biden said that the democracies of the world are growing stronger.
“One year ago, the world was bracing for the fall of Kyiv. Well, I’ve just come from a visit to Kyiv and I can report Kyiv stands strong. Kyiv stands proud, it stands tall and most important, it stands free,” Biden stated.
Meanwhile, Russian President, Vladimir Putin has claimed that Ukraine and its friends in the West began the war.
Biden is aiming at rallying support for Ukraine and reiterated his commitment to security.
Biden also called on NATO countries to “keep our head and our focus.”
“I made it clear that the commitment of the United States is real and that a year later I would argue NATO is stronger than it’s ever been,” Biden said.
“I can proudly say that our support for Ukraine remains unwavering.”
In addition, Biden said that the U.S. joins the European nations in announcing new sanctions on Moscow.
In Kyiv, President Biden encouraged President Zelensky to persevere.
“Freedom is priceless. It’s worth fighting for, for as long as it takes. And that’s how long we’re going to be with you, Mr. President – for as long as it takes,” Biden said.
