By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On February 22, 2023, the President of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), Dr. Ilian Goldfyan, and Prime Minister John Briceño visited the Itz’at STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) Academy in Belize City. This academy is the newest high school in Belize and a component of an IDB-funded initiative to promote education focused on technology, science, and the arts.
The Itz’at STEAM Academy is set to open in September and will feature a curriculum that prepares students for high-demand careers in technology fields. Minister of Education, Culture, Science, and Technology, Francis Fonseca, invited the IDB President and Prime Minister to tour the academy and witness the progress of this initiative.
The Prime Minister, who highlighted the importance of a responsive education sector to national development, praised the work of the Minister of Education, Francis Fonseca, Minister of State Dr. Louis Zabaneh, and the entire Ministry of Education for their efforts in designing the It’zat Steam Academy Belize. The academy is part of the government’s #PlanBelize commitments, which aim to offer innovative and technologically centered learning environments across science and arts to young people in the country.
