By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: During a “Views from Ukraine” panel held virtually this morning, head of the Ukraine Forum and Research Fellow in the Russia and Eurasia Programme at Chatham House, Orysia Lutsevych said that during Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the global population understood the nature of Putin’s regime.
Orysia’s most recent research is about building resilience in Ukraine and safeguarding society from Russian aggression.
In addition, Orysia noted that countries still trading with Russia even after sanctions were implemented are basically financing the Russian regime that continues to commit crimes against humanity.
“Russia is using trade to purchase more ammunition to kill Ukrainian civilians,” Orysia noted.
Discussions during the panel also included the threat of other regimes that are closely observing Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and also observing the West’s response and support for democracy.
Orysia said that Ukraine is critical for global food security and Ukraine can contribute to big innovations including digital governments, digitizing to fight corruption and crowd source intelligence.
Recently, Ukraine developed an app to have all your identifications accessible through your cell phone.
Ukraine can also contribute to the breakthrough in agricultural technologies, Orysia added.
“After 1 year of invasion, Ukrainians have overcome the fear of Russia and this has brought enormous empowerment because Ukrainians feel hope despite what is happening…. For the future of Ukraine, we hope for a prosperous economy, because Putin cannot crack Ukraine and Ukraine will stand by to protect every inch of its territory,” Orysia stated.
