Ministry of Infrastructure Development renovates Public Buildings downtown Belize City

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Public Buildings on Regent Street in the downtown area of Belize City are being renovated by the Ministry of Infrastructure Development and Housing (MIDH).

At present the MIFDH is working on the building that houses magistrates’ courts and is where the Boledo and National Lottery are drawn. Along with the Supreme Court building, the two structures have traditionally been called the ‘Public Buildings’. The one now being renovated is across from James Brodie and next to the Bliss Theatre of Performing Arts.

The building originally housed the Belize Treasury.

“Major renovation taking place on the buildings which are the foundation of the administration of justice in Belize City,” the MIDH said in a brief statement posted on social media.

“Hurricane Lisa caused significant damage, but the MIDH is up to the task and working hard to rebuild and upgrade.”

Drivers should note that Treasury Lane has been closed to traffic.
