Belize Under-21 Women’s Team, Belize Under-19 Men’s Team qualify for the 1st time for Continental Volleyball Championships

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Belize Under-21 Women’s Team and the Belize Under-19 Men’s Team have for the first time ever qualified for the Continental Volleyball Championships.

“Historic – the result of the recent Central American Championship performances and the program development,” the Belize Volleyball Association (BVA) said in a press release issued on Thursday.

“It is the first time that Belize Volleyball has qualified to this level in the underaged category.”

“Belize Volleyball is extremely proud. Talent combined with hard work, sacrifice, good programs, and a strong organization, takes Belize to the continental level, playing against world-level teams.”

This means that Belize will have a shot at qualifying for the FIVB World Championships.

The BVA said the NORCECA U-19 Men’s Volleyball Championship will be held in Guatemala City on March 13-18, 2023. Belize will be competing along with the United States, Mexico, Cuba, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, and Guatemala.

The NORCECA U-21 Women’s Volleyball Championship is scheduled for May 23-28 in Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico. Belize’s rivals will be the United States, Mexico, Cuba, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Canada, and Guatemala.

The BVA said the U-19 Men’s National Team will leave for Guatemala City on March 11. In the meantime, the BVA is confirming player availability for the U-21 Women’s National Team.
The BVA said the top-ranked teams from these continental competitions will qualify for the FIVB World Championships.

“Participating in these championships earns significant ranking points, raising Belize’s continental and world ranting, hopefully resulting in more opportunities from NORCECA and FIVB,” the BVA said.

“It also offers athletes an elite level tournament to showcase their talent.”

The BVA closed its press release saying it looks forward to the support of all Belizeans and to the assistance of the government and the private sector.
