Orange Walk man charged for assaulting his common-law-wife must move out of his home until the case is concluded

By Breaking Belize News Staff: An Orange Walk man accused of assaulting his wife during a domestic dispute will need to find new living accommodations until his case is concluded.

Forty-seven-year-old Jose Chable appeared alongside his attorney Dale Cayetano in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court today, charged with a single count of common assault. He pleaded not guilty to the charge and was granted bail in the sum of $600 plus one surety of the same which he managed to meet.

As a part of his bail conditions, Chable must stay a minimum of 100 yards from his common law wife, but since they both live at the same home, Senior Magistrate Baja Shoman told him that he will need to provide a new address for the remainder of the court proceedings.

He is due back in the Orange Walk Magistrate’s Court on April 23. Chable’s attorney told the court that he will be staying with a relative in the meantime.

Allegations against him are that he attacked his common law wife during a domestic dispute on Wednesday, February 15.
