Sir Barry Bowen Bridge in San Pedro nears completion

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: The Sir Barry Bowen Bridge in San Pedro Town is almost complete, The San Pedro Sun reports.

Mayor of San Pedro, Gualberto ‘Wally’ Nuñez noted that an inauguration would be held after its finalized.

However, by weekend, the bridge would be operational and opened to vehicular traffic easing the congestion at the bridge.

Mayor Nunez said that the official opening could be held in approximately 2 weeks.

The bridge was opened in 2006 and had been built to support golf carts and pedestrians however, through recent years, it had been used by heavier vehicles to access the island’s northern side.

Mayor Nunez and his councilors took office in 2021 and began efforts on securing funds to restore the dilapidated bridge.

Works commenced in December 2021 and are now almost complete.
