Teenager detained in afternoon murder in Roaring Creek

By Aaron Humes: An 18-year-old has been detained in the Wednesday afternoon murder of 16-year-old Dane Matute of Roaring Creek, Cayo District, and the attempted murder of 15-year-old Kaylen Wade.

According to police’s initial investigation, the teen boys and others were socializing by the cement steps near the riverside opposite from Guanacaste Park when they heard seven gunshots fired from the other side of the river.

Matute and Wade were taken to the Western Regional Hospital, Belmopan, where Matute was pronounced dead on arrival and Wade was treated; he remains in stable condition.

Police investigations continue at this time.
