Orange Walk watchman dodges would-be burglar

By Aaron Humes: A watchman at Orange Walk Technical High School was lucky to escape with his life after being held up at gunpoint by a would-be burglar on Wednesday morning.

According to Victor Torres, he was at work and went to the staff room to get some water. Earlier he had heard dogs barking but as the sound got closer he went back to the security booth and locked himself inside. He checked the security camera and saw a man in black clothing walking up to the booth.

The door was partially opened and as Torres attempted to close it, the man approached, pointing a pistol at him. The man demanded he open the booth, but as he did Torres saw a police vehicle passing by Stadium Street and quickly alerted them to what was happening.

Police searched the area but found no trace of the armed man and have begun an investigation.
