Belizean/American retiree charged for possession of cocaine

By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Belizean/American has been charged with possession of an undetermined amount of cocaine.

Sixty-two-year-old Anthony Grady appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, charged with a single count of possession of controlled drugs.

Grady pleaded guilty, saying that the drugs did not belong to him but he is too old to be fighting court battles and does not have anyone to post bail for him.

The Magistrate explained to Grady that she cannot accept a guilty plea if he is not in agreement with the facts as they were read to him, so an equivocal plea of not guilty was entered on his behalf.

Grady was granted bail in the sum of $1,000 plus one surety of the same but was unable to meet it.

He was remanded to the Belize Central Prison until April 17.
