U.S. donates Cessna to Belize Defence Force

By Aaron Humes: A formal handover will take place on Wednesday, March 1, but the Government of the United States has delivered a Cessna Grand Caravan EX to the Belize Defence Force (BDF).

The aircraft landed at the Philip Goldson International Airport on February 22 and was given a water cannon salute.

The Force has been looking to upgrade its air capability as its duties expand to interdicting drug trafficking and trafficking in persons activity, as well as patrolling the borders against illegal incursion and planting, especially in the west.

BDF senior command has previously spoken about adding helicopters and other aircraft to the existing Air Wing.

Prime Minister John Briceño and U.S. Ambassador to Belize Michelle Kwan will be in attendance at the handover ceremony on Wednesday.
