By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Verdes-Altitude match was abandoned after Altitude goalkeeper Oscar Palomino was allegedly hit by a stone in minute 83’ at the Norman Broaster Stadium in San Ignacio.
With Verdes leading 3-0 in the Premier League of Belize derby, play was interrupted when Palomino, down on the pitch seemingly in severe pain, called for assistance.
As the medic attended to Palomino, Altitude head coach Wilmer Garcia entered the field, approached the referee who was in the goal area where Palomino was being attended. Garcia motioned to the wall behind the goal, ran to it and picked up a stone about a palm wide. He showed the assistant referee on the sideline motioning that the stone had been thrown, supposedly from outside the stadium at Palomino.
In the 86’, Altitude Manager Jordan Zabaneh, who asked permission to enter the pitch, called his team to the sideline. After some consultation, Altitude walked to their locker room.
The Premier League of Belize has not confirmed if the game ended due to Altitude walking off or the referee calling off the match.
Verdes’ goals were scored by Marco Antonio Zavala (2’), Nicolas Gómez (48’), and Eldon Reneau (53’).
