By Aaron Humes: Presenting their credentials today are Belize’s newest members of the diplomatic and consular corps from two of its longest-standing ally countries.
Their Excellencies Lily Li-Wen Hsu and Nelson Merari Mejia represent the Republic of China (Taiwan) and the Republic of Honduras, respectively.
On her reception by Governor-General Dame Froyla Tzalam, Ambassador Hsu, who succeeds the recently departed David Kuan-Chou Chien, spoke of Belize and Taiwan’s shared values and ideals of freedom and democracy, and aspirations to “promote the well-being of all peoples and maintain world peace.” She pledged to continue to promote both countries’ mutual interests and strengthen the strong relationship of cooperation and goodwill.
Ambassador Mejia conveyed his hope for continued friendship, peace, and harmony between Belize and Honduras, notwithstanding the current dispute over the Sapodilla Cayes in the South.
The Governor-General welcomed the ambassadors, expressing her wishes for strengthened and continued cooperation with their respective governments. She also wished them success during their tenures in Belize.
