International News: United Nations Sec-Gen says ‘massive human rights violations’ occurring in Ukraine

U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres said at the Human Rights Council in Geneva that Russia’s invasion has triggered “the most massive violations of human rights” in the world, the Associated Press reports.

It “has unleashed widespread death, destruction and displacement,” Guterres added.

Guterres said “attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure have caused many casualties and terrible suffering.”

Late Sunday, Russia had launched attacks with exploding drones on several regions, killing 2 people.

Among the crimes documented, Guterres said that there is sexual violence, enforced disappearances, arbitrary detention and violations of the rights of prisoners of war documented by the U.N. human rights office.

“This is a moment to stand on the right side of history,” he stated.

Meanwhile, Russia was not represented at the council.
