By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The first load of Big Falls Rice Products entered the Belize market on Tuesday, February 28. Big Falls Rice Products is the new rice brand packaged and distributed by the Belize Marketing and Development Corporation (BMDC).
“The Belize Marketing and Development Corporation (BMDC) is excited to announce the launch of its Big Falls Rice Brand,” the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security, and Enterprise (MAFSE) said in a social media post on Tuesday.
“Starting Thursday, March 2, 2023 our Rice products will be available for purchase in stores in Orange Walk and Belize City.”
Last year in May, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security, and Enterprise (MAFSE) said rice production in the South was experiencing a revival.
Plans to shelve the multi-million rice mill in Toledo were discontinued, the mill became operational, and rice production in the South started experiencing a revival, said the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security, and Enterprise (MAFSE) in a social media post.
MAFSE said the mill is serving the rice farmers in that area of the country “churning out our high-quality Belizean rice, and the small farmers of the area have crops they can sell. Incomes are being generated and life is better for those Toledo farmers.”
MAFSE has offered high level technical support throughout the rice production process in the Toledo and Stann Creek areas. This has benefitted both traditional milpa farmers and mechanized farmers who are producing better quality of paddy and delivering it for milling to the BMDC mill which is now being marketed as Big Falls Rice.
BMDC said you can reach them at 227-3409 or at [email protected].
