By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Belmopan Red Taigaz and the Griga Dream Ballers recorded important wins on the weekend as the Belize Elite Basketball (BEBL) completed five weeks of activity.
The Red Taigaz beat the Cayo Western Ballaz 98-90 at the University of Belize Gymnasium in Belmopan. Jeremiah Toney led the Taigaz with a career high 34 points, 13 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 blocks. Their record now stands at two wins and two losses. They have a game pending against the San Pedro Tiger Sharks.
The Western Ballaz dropped to 2-3 and need to return to their winning ways.
The Griga Dream Ballers ran over Punta Gorda Panthers 95-64 at the Russell ‘Chiste’ Garcia in Dangriga on Saturday night as well. They were led by D’von Campbell who produced 22 points, 3 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 steals. Griga are now 3-2 while PG fell to 1-4.
In the other weekend games the Digi Belize City Defenders (4-1) beat the previously undefeated Benny’s Belize Hurricanes (4-1) 75-66 on Friday night, while the Orange Walk Running Rebels (2-3) defeated the San Pedro Sharks (1-3) 91-83.
