By Breaking Belize News Staff: The Belize Police Department and the Leadership Intervention Unit within the Ministry of Home Affairs are preparing to host a meeting with rival groups in Roaring Creek, Cayo district, following the shooting death of 15-year-old Dane Matute.
Matute and another minor were shot on February 22, while swimming at a popular spot opposite Guanacaste Park at the entrance to Belmopan. Matute was taken to the Western Regional Hospital where he died while receiving treatment.
Head of Communications for the Office of the Commissioner of Police ASP Fitzroy Yearwood, said that Deputy Commissioner of Police Dr. Richard Rosado and the Officer Commanding the Roaring Creek Police Formation will be meeting with the rival groups as early as Wednesday of this week.
“I said two rival groups, for me to categorize it as a gang, I can’t do that as yet, we will know what the results are after the mediation,” Yearwood said.
Yearwood also said that police are seeking several suspects in relation to the incident.
