By Aaron Humes: To further support the efforts of the Magistracy in reducing court case backlogs, eight laptops and associated equipment valued at more than US$13,000 was handed over to the Magistracy this morning at the temporary home of the Judiciary, the former National Bank of Belize building.

Aided by previous donations, the Magistracy according to Chief Magistrate Sharon Frazer has been able to reduce its backlog by 50 percent. Cases are being managed through a system designed to reduce waiting time and deliver justice more efficiently.

Chief Justice Louise Blenman added that as the Judiciary rights itself after several years of upheaval, the support of partners local and international is critical to the success of the system.

According to Deputy Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), Ian King, the long-term Infosegura project is developing similar information management systems for the Central Prison and National Forensic Science Service with the goal of integrating these in a single apparatus dedicated to citizen security.
