Former Coast Guard officer Keyren Tzib, charged for attempted murder, remanded to prison for not coming to court

By Breaking Belize News Staff: Former Coast Guard officer Keyren Tzib, who was out on bail following a charge of attempted murder, was remanded to the Belize Central Prison this week for not coming to court.

Court records show that Tzib was to appear before Justice Ricardo O’Niel Sandcroft in the High Court of Belize on Monday, February 20, but failed to do so.

Justice Sandcroft then issued a warrant for her arrest and she was picked up by police on February 23.

She appeared before Justice Nigel Pilgrim on Monday, along with her attorney Darrel Bradley, who explained several reasons to the court why she did not make her last court date.

Those reasons included that Tzib was in fact, trying to come to Belize City on a bus to make the court appearance, but did not manage to make it. Bradley also said that there was a mixup with her court dates, which caused some confusion as to when she was actually supposed to show up.

Justice Pilgrim said that he was concerned about Tzib’s blatant disregard of a court order and noted that she still had not come voluntarily, but was rather picked up by police. Tzib was remanded until March 7.

Tzib was arrested and charged with shooting Curt Hyde back in 2015. The date for her trial has still not been set.
