Posted: Wednesday, March 1, 2023. 2:06 pm CST.

By Breaking Belize News Staff: Joel Choco, who was charged for aggravated assault and handling stolen goods last year, was denied bail a second time when he appeared in court this week.

In December 2022, Choco applied to the then Supreme Court, now the High Court of Belize for bail, but his bail was denied. When he appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, Choco again pleaded to receive bail, having been on remand at the Belize Central Prison since November 2022.

In court the senior Magistrate explained to Choco that since he was denied bail at a superior court, her hands are tied and his application has to be denied.

He was further remanded to the Belize Central Prison, with his trial set for May 30.

On November 21, 2022, Choco was allegedly caught by police with a firearm that had been stolen from the Government of Belize and during his interaction committed aggravated assault upon PC #2023, Mauricio Cobb.
