By Benjamin Flowers: Parents and students of Port Loyola Community Pre-School took to the streets of Belize City this morning for a parade to mark the opening of Child Stimulation Month 2023.
Led by the St. John Vianney Marching Band, the parade left the school compound on Fabers Road, onto Central American Boulevard, and moved through the surrounding area making its way back to the school grounds.
Francelia McKoy, Principal of the school, said that there are activities lined up for the students for the entire month, including visits to the Belize National Fire Service, a dentist’s office, and the local library, as well as guests coming into the school for Parent/Grandparents Read Aloud Day and Career Day.
Mccoy said that one of the major roles the activities play is to encourage parents who still have reservations about the pre-school setting to send their kids to preschool.
“Some of them don’t want to send their children because they feel the child is too young. But when they see the activities, and they see the community involvement, many of them become inspired,” McKoy said.
Child Stimulation Month is celebrated annually in the month of March, with the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Technology being the lead entity promoting and hosting activities for children all over Belize.
Child Stimulation Month is being observed this year under the theme “We are strong, learning, and growing.”
