57-year-old man with drug addiction happy to go to jail for rehab

By Breaking Belize News Staff: Belize City resident 57-year-old Mark Leonard celebrated this week when he was sentenced to six months at the Belize Central Prison.

Leonard, who was charged with a single count of possession of a pipe, immediately pleaded guilty to the offense on Wednesday.

When asked why he was happy to go to prison, Leonard said that he had a problem with drug addiction and sees his sentence as an opportunity to get some much-needed help through the rehabilitation program headed up by the Kolbe Foundation.

Police caught Leonard with a chrome and black pipe around 7.5 centimeters long which was adapted for use in smoking crack cocaine.
