American national living illegally in Belize remanded to prison

Posted: Friday, March 3, 2023. 12:47 pm CST.

By Breaking Belize News Staff: An American national found to be living in Belize illegally has been remanded to the Belize Central Prison.

On Thursday, 33-year-old Gregory Brown, whose listed address is in Connecticut, USA, originally appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Friday, February 24; however, he was behaving disorderly and refused to calm down, so he was remanded to prison. On Thursday, March 2 when he reappeared in court, Brown had a much calmer demeanor as he answered to a charge of illegal entry.

Brown admitted to entering Belize illegally and told the court he does not have any documentation, stressing that he does not wish to return to the US. He also claimed that he was in Belize seeking asylum.

After considering the facts, the magistrate deemed Brown a prohibited immigrant and further remanded him until March 16, when he will be sentenced.
