By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Today, Belize joins the rest of the world in commemorating World Wildlife Day.
March 3 is observed annually as World Wildlife Day.
World Wildlife Day celebrates the world’s wild animals and plants and the contribution that they make to our lives and the health of the planet.
The theme for this year is “Partnerships for Wildlife Conservation”.
The theme focuses on the need to work across governments, civil society, and the private sector to turn commitment into action.
As human populations grow, people and wildlife increasingly interact and compete for resources, often leading to human-wildlife conflict.
The Belize Forest Department works with 6 rehabilitation centers: Wildtracks, Aces Wildlife Rescue, Belize Bird Rescue, Belize Wildlife and Referral Clinic, Crocodile Research Coalition, Belize Raptor Center and The Belize Zoo & Tropical Education Center in the conservation, rescue, rehabilitation and release of injured and orphaned wildlife.
The Belize Forest Department thanks rehabilitation partners and the public who have assisted in wildlife conservation and rehabilitation.
