Slim and Trim like Guava Limb win Stage 1 of the Belikin Ruta Maya Belize River Challenge

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Slim and Trim like Guava Limb, comprising Javier Guardado, 15-year old Danny Cruz Jr, and Andres Cabb, won the 48-mile first leg of the four-day 175-mile Belikin La Ruta Maya Belize River Challenge in a heated sprint over Westrac’s Lucas Oil on Friday at Banana Bank.

Koop Sheet Metal took third place over defending champions Team PACT who fell to fourth place.

Coast Guard Net 0 were fifth and the Wateva Boyz Travellers finished sixth.

Belize Coast Guard 1.5 completed the first leg in the seventh position.

Fifty-seven teams started the biggest canoe race in Belize at 7:00 am on Friday morning under the Hawkesworth Bridge on the Macal River in San Ignacio, a short distance from where that river joins the Mopan to become the Belize River, for the 25^th edition.

Stage 2 heads from Banana Bank to Double Head Cabbage on Saturday, March 4.

The Third Stage takes off at Double Head Cabbage and finishes at Henderson’s Bank in Burrell Boom on Sunday, March 5.

The final Stage 4 comes on Monday, March 6, from Burrell Boom to Belize City finishing by the Belize City Centre.
