All hands on deck; Smart Belize hands over new home to mother of 2

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On March 3, 2023, staff members of Smart Belize were building a new home for young mom, Francisca Hower.

Smart Belize teamed up with Hand in Hand ministries to build the new wooden home on Antelope Street Extension.

Smart’s Marketing Supervisor, Adelaide Sabido told News 5 that the company will celebrate its 18^th anniversary on March 29, so the decision was made to assist a family with a home especially after Hurricane Lisa.

“We had four recipients that were deserving of the house, based on the stipulations by Hand in Hand Ministries’ program, so we visited those four families, we interviewed them, we looked at a needs-based assessment and we selected after several hours, Ms Francisca Hower and she received the house you see being built here,”Sabido said.

Development Director for Hand in Hand Ministries, Maggie Vargas says that applicants go through a process and then, they would give the names to Smart and Smart makes a decision.

“It was a process, and I’m sure for SMART it was a bit difficult, having to choose one because they saw the needs that the others had. All the others that they visited will get a home from us because they have been vetted already, but it was just a matter for them to choose who they wanted to build for,” Vargas said.
