75 cyclists participate in 50-mile OCEANA Ride for the Reef from Belmopan to Belize City

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Seventy-five riders participate in the first annual OCEANA Ride for the Reef held by Oceana under the theme ‘For Health, Wealth and Pleasure, Our Reef is a Treasure!’.

The ride started at the Independence Hall, the National Assembly Building, in Belmopan at 6:15am and arrived at the Memorial Park in Belize City at 10:08 am.

The ride, which is part of Reef Week 2023, had the objective of raising awareness to the restoration and protection of the Belize Barrier Reef.

“Belize’s Barrier Reef System is a lifeline for thousands of Belizeans, and it’s our responsibility to do what we can to help it recover and remain protected for future generations,” Oceana Belize said in a social media post.

“Support our efforts to restore and protect Belize’s invaluable marine resources from pollution, unsustainable coastal development, and offshore oil exploration.”
