Earthquake in the Caribbean – 3.9 magnitude strikes off the coast of Antigua and Barbuda

By Breaking Belize News Staff: Last night, a magnitude 3.9 earthquake was reported north-northwest of Antigua and Barbuda, according to the UWI Seismic Research Center (UWI SRC). The quake struck at 9:27 PM (local time) at a depth of 10 km, causing tremors felt in several nearby locations.

The Automatic Earthquake Location from UWI SRC recorded the quake’s impact in Saint John’s, Antigua and Barbuda, 110 km NNW, Basseterre, Saint Kitts and Nevis, 113 km NE, and Point-à-Pitre, Guadeloupe, 212 km NNW. While no significant damage or injuries have been reported, residents in the affected areas felt the ground shake and reported feeling uneasy.

The UWI SRC is monitoring the situation and conducting further analysis to determine the cause of the earthquake. Officials are advising residents to stay alert and be prepared for aftershocks, and to follow any instructions from local authorities.
