Fire destroys two structures in Lake Independence area

By Aaron Humes: Police are investigating a reported double house fire that occurred on Sunday morning.

According to Police, the residence of Mark Burgess of Tibruce Street located on Estela Metzgen Street went up in flames around 10:30 a.m., and spread to a nearby peach and yellow cement structure.

Fire Department personnel responded and extinguished the fire though reports from the area suggest that fire trucks arrived with low water pressure and that the second structure could have been saved. The Fire Service has long said that its usual mode of fighting fires is to locate the nearest open source of water, whether a hydrant or open canal or other waters, to complement the limited amount of water carried by the trucks.

The value of the house and its contents are yet to be ascertained. Police investigation continues.
