By Breaking Belize News Staff: March 5th, marked the 10 year anniversary of the death of former Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez. According the Venezuelan Embassy in Belize, commemorated the occasion describing Chavez as the founder of the Bolivarian Revolution and said even 10 years after his physical transcendence he is still considered the Eternal Commander of Government.
Chavez is credited for his leadership and emphasis on social justice and equity, demonstrating strong anti-imperialist vision and the values of the 21st century Bolivarianism, such as multilateralism, integration and cooperation among Southern American countries.
“The legacy of Hugo Chávez transcended space and time, since they are still valid both in Venezuela and in all of America,” the Embassy of Venezuela said, also noting his role in the birth of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC).
“In these years, when Venezuela has been continuously attacked with the imposition of unilateral and illegal sanctions, the Government of President Nicolás Maduro aspires to contribute to a new emancipation against the forms of domination promoted by the imperial axes: economic and financial persecution, the claim to protect relations between peoples, military intervention and the kidnapping of the wealth of nations,” the Embassy added.
Chavez also founded the PetroCaribe program which has benefited countries in the Caribbean including Belize. During Prime Minister John Briceño’s most recent visit to Venezuela to meet with President Maduro, the two leaders discussed the possibility of resuming the PetroCaribe program.
