Police charge Alvaro Tun of San Pedro for murder in a fatal bar brawl

By Aaron Humes: Alvaro Luis Tun, 32, was scheduled to be arraigned this morning in San Pedro Town Magistrate’s Court on a charge of murder in relation to a fatal brawl reported overnight on Sunday morning.

As reported by Communications Officer for the Belize Police Department, Assistant Superintendent of Police Fitzroy Yearwood, Tun was directly identified by bystanders as having inflicted the fatal injuries to Elder Arana at a bar in the San Pedrito area. Three men had originally been seen fleeing from the area. Arana and the men had been socializing at the nightclub and he was leaving, Tun allegedly attacked him; but a specific motive has yet to be established.

Arana, 29, was stabbed several times and was pronounced dead at the town polyclinic. A post-mortem examination has been scheduled.
