By Breaking Belize News staff: A 46-year-old Belize City man accused of being found with drugs and ammunition claims police arrested him instead of the person to whom the items belong.
Harlon Goff appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, charged with one count of possession of controlled drugs with the intent to supply to another with respect to 1.9 grams of cocaine, and one count of kept unlicensed ammunition with respect to five live .9mm rounds.
Goff, who was unrepresented in court, pleaded not guilty to both charges and told the court that he does not even live at the house where the items were found. He further said that the owner of the items fled and left him there to take the charge.
Due to the nature of the offenses, he was denied bail and remanded to the Belize Central Prison until May 9.
Police say that on Friday, March 3, they searched a house on the corner of Vernon Street and Mosul Street, and found Goff sitting in an abandoned house in the same yard. When police searched him they found a key on him and asked him what lock the key opened. Goff pointed to a wooden structure in the same yard and when police used the key to open the structure they found the drugs and ammunition.
