Cotton Tree man chopped while stopping a fight

By Aaron Humes: Police are looking into a report of an injury sustained by a Cotton Tree man who says he got it while trying to help a friend out of a fight on Monday night.

According to Andrew Muns, 31, he and two friends were socializing near the village cemetery. One of the friends, known to him only as “Corona” left to buy some cigarettes but took longer than expected and he and his other friend decided to go home for the night.

Muns relates that on their way, walking the lane in front of the village football field, they came upon “Corona” and two other men known to him for some time in a fight. It appeared to him that “Corona” was coming out on the losing end and so he intervened, trying to separate the fighting trio. As he sought to stop one of the men from choking “Corona” around the throat, the other individual chopped him to the right shoulder and right side of the head.

As Muns tried to check whether he was injured, the duo ran off and Muns went home from where he was taken for medical attention to the Western Regional Hospital, Belmopan.

Muns’ injuries were classified as grievous harm and police investigations continue. One man is being sought.
