By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Belize City man who was charged for public drinking complicated matters for himself further by running from police and then lying to them.

Twenty-year-old Waltero Xol appeared unrepresented in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, where he was read one count of public drinking, one count of escape, and one count of mischievous act.

Xol pleaded guilty to all three charges and Senior Magistrate Aretha Ford decided not to impose a sanction for the public drinking charge. Xol was, however, fined $200 plus $5 cost of court for the escape charge and $100 plus cost of court for the mischievous act. He was given until May 26 to pay both fines or be remanded to prison for two months and one month respectively for defaulting.

On Friday, March 3, Xol was caught at the corner of Cemetery Road and West Street consuming alcohol in public. He was detained and while in detention, escaped from custody. When asked his name while in detention, Xol gave officers a different name, which was later learned to be false.
