By Breaking Belize News Staff: Twenty-three-year-old-year-old Fitzroy Myles Jr. has accused the Belize Police Department of trying to force him to plead guilty to gang affiliation.
Myles appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, charged with a single count of being a member of a gang.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge and asked for permission to speak, explaining that he had been detained since Monday, February 27, released on Friday, March 3, after being picked up pending Preliminary Inquiry for murder, and then police re-arrested him and charged him for being a member of a gang.
Myles further alleged that, while he was detained a police officer was trying to force him to plead guilty to being a member of a gang, but he refused to do so.
Due to the nature of the offense, Myles was denied bail and remanded to the Belize Central Prison until June 7.
